torturing and burning of christians by the catholic church | |
could you advise me as to how it was that 300 protestants were burnt at the stake here under catholic queen mary 1 the wife of king philip of spain when in the bible titus 3.10 st. paul states "a man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself". nowhere does st. paul of anyone of the christian faith including christ himself in the bible directs any christian of whatsoever status to burn those which they consider to be rejected from their church formed after the manner withn which they conceive of the christian faith.
i would like to know your translation of this passage in titus and any other passage in the bible upon which your church can consider either to persecute or put to death those which it rejects as against their religion. under papal courts proposed by thomas a becket at the time of king henry 11 the worst the court could do was to excommunicate the person concerned. what legal grounds had your church for torturing or burning to death those whom you rejected as contrary to your conception of the christian faith.
