the basis for the church of rome | |
what grounds have you for your claim that st. peter was bishop of rome. if you read his 2 epistles you will see he was an elder and the salutation at the end of one of his epistles is "those of the church at babylon salute you", which appears strongly to suggest that he was elder of the church at babylon. st. paul was under house arrest for 2 years at rome and wrote many epistles from there. why was the church not based on st. paul and his teachings at rome? st. peter was the apostle of the circumcism while st. paul was the apostle of the uncircumcision, the apostle to the gentiles and in bonds for a witness to them. thus the establishment of a jewish type priesthood by your church and not that based on christ, our high priest, after the order of melchisidek, christ in the holy of holies in heaven advising his church from heaven as he did st. paul called after christ`s ascension into heaven. christians were never instructed to institute a priesthood serving at the altar, but were as a whole a royal priesthood with spiritual sacrifices, as st. peter himself testifies to in his epistles.
if you church had followed st. paul`s teachings more closely, teachings highly recommended by st. peter, you would not have taken your church into so much error and great controversies down the centuries between your traditions not based on the bible and those who believed the truth and teachings of the bible and accepted only those teachings extra the bible which concurred with it
